Question 2: Exhaling

Who is striving for what? As Dosho asks in question 2 of Going Through the Mystery’s One hundred Questions.

” So intimate, who is striving for what?

This is not a rhetorical question.”

I tried to move onto the third question, but I keep coming back here. Perhaps because I know I have not satisfactorily answered this question for myself. Not perhaps. I know I have not answered it. The impulse to get through the questions, to keep moving tried to take over. But internally, another part of this Who resists. Answer the question, Paul. Answer the question before you move on.

Looking back on the task, I see that I am confusing the question. Dosho does ask this at the end of the chapter. But this is not what Yuantong asked. Looking back, I see:

Yuantong asked: “In the dark, dark, dark place one must also exhale. Tell me, what is crossing over?”

Wansong replied: “At fault, but not repeating the offense.”

What is crossing over? This is the question Yuantong asks. This is the question to answer. Or both Yuantong and Dosho’s questions need answering. More specifically, Dosho’s question is an opening to Yuantong’s question.

What is crossing over?

At fault, but not repeating the offense

After an avalanche

The mountain does not carry the fallen rocks

Back to its peak
