This Morning
This morning, on the
Fifty-fourth anniversary of my birth
At the start of the fifty-fifth journey
Across this universe
Circling an average or so star
I woke an hour early
To join a meeting
With fifty-six other people
Who share a common affliction
We read a few paragraphs of
“A Vision For You”
And then across zoom, drifting
Across this galaxy, circling
This yellow orb, many of
Us shared,
Experience strength and hope
A little something for
The twenty-four hours ahead
Then I turned on some music
A tribute album to one of us
By that person’s dad released
On what would have been his
Thirty-ninth anniversary of his birth
The start of his fortieth galaxy drift
Circling at ninety-three million miles
An average star in an average galaxy
Except, sometimes, sometimes
Sometimes
Well, it’s cunning baffling and dangerous
So I got up an hour early
To join fifty-six other people
On the fifty-fourth anniversary
To get just enough immunity
For twenty-four hours
So I could listen to some music
And have a slice of pizza
Sometime later today
On this next circle of the sun
Drifting across this
Infinite, infinite universe
And shed a tear for one of us
Not here today
