I Hope It’s a Good One

I Hope It’s a Good One

This morning I think, this morning

I think, this morning I sit

I think, this morning I sit, I think

Maybe I should listen to Spanish guitar

Thru the headphones as the neighbors

The neighbors are still asleep

And will be for hours, for many hours

New Year’s Day

Two Thousand Twenty-Four

I wrote

John Lennon and I hope

It’s a good one

Without any fear

Having already read of a tsunami warning

For Japan and at least one of the Koreas

And though I have not looked at the news

I rest assured that bombs have fallen

On peoples, many many peoples

But we can aspire to

A different world, to a god

Understood differently, a god

Who has forsaken

Bloodlust and retribution

It is the morning of a New Year

Yoko Ono has moved upstate

She has left the Dakotah

Where I stood one day

Watching people taking wedding pics

On the last spot John Lennon stood

Before

I will not say his name

Ever

And I hope it’s a good one

I hope with Mr. Lennon

Without any fear

And I hope for

A god, a buddah, an allah, a yahweh

Of a new understanding

Who yearns not so much

For blood sacrifice, for blood retribution

An allah, a buddah, a yahweh, a god

Of a new understanding

For me and mine

And

You and yours

For the us of an imagined world

Without any countries

It’s easy if you try

It is easy

If we try
