Carrot Flowers

There must be
There may be
Carrot Flowers
As in the song
To have one be
The King of Carrot Flowers
I know, I know
That in an instant I could know
The world of knowledge
Carried in my pocket
But for just right now
I would prefer to exist
In the unknowing
In the gloaming between
Thinking of my father
Every spring sowing
Carrot seeds in the
Garden out back down
The hill, in the flat space
Abutting the schoolyard
Every spring sowing
In a garden much too clayey
No matter how many
Red wheelbarrows of black dirt
Wheeled from the driveway
Across the front yard
Down the hill in back
Spread across the garden
Still, too much clay for
Carrots more than a struggling
Two inches stumpy long, I
Do not recall carrots flowering
Yet, the singer sings
Of a Carrot Flower King
I could be sure, in
An instant, but for now
I prefer to persist in
The unknowing
The gloaming
The imagining
Of a delicate bloom
Tiny, tiny, tiny
A single blooming
Carrot Flower
